Clanks, Buckets and Steals: Daily/Nightly Summit League Recap

With fingers crossed, this is something that I want to do every night/the next morning. There’s a pile of men’s and women’s basketball teams in the Midwest. Obviously, since I’m just one dude I cannot physically watch/cover every team in that area. I plan to recap the Summit League with clanks, buckets and steals from every game that night. I’m a humongo women’s basketball fan love it or hate it. But I love ball. So, every night/the next morning I’ll have a recap of basketball stuff that happened that night.

Summit League Men’s Basketball

Cayman Islands Classic @ Cayman Island Classic — Iowa (3-2) 72, South Dakota State (4-2) 80

Afternoon ball games on a rando Tuesday? I’ll eat that shit up like sushi and yum yum sauce. Iowa was the favorite in this game by seven points but SDSU didn’t give a fuk. Mike Daum stuggled again from the floor (4-of-11) but four players including Tevin King, Reed Tellinghuisen and David Jenkins Jr. scored in double figures for the Jackrabbits. Jenkins led all scores with 23 points off the friggin bench. Daum slammed one home at the buzzer and Iowa trailed 36-33 at the half. If this doesn’t give your team momentum or juice at the half I don’t really know what would.

Daum’s mom got in on the action and put some free throws up at halftime. Big statement win for SDSU. Could help the Jackrabbits towards the beginning of March when tourney time rolls around.

Cayman Islands Classic @ George Town, Grand Caymans — Oral Roberts, Pepperdine

Summit League Women’s Basketball

UIC (2-1) 67 @ Fort Wayne (1-4) 51

Fort Wayne is the worst team in the Summit League this season and it ain’t close. They are a young and relatively small squad and UIC overpowered them on the offensive glass Tuesday afternoon. Can’t allow 21 offensive rebounds and expect to win. Kierstyn Repp and Hannah Albrecht hit some deep deep deep three’s but it just wasn’t enough against University of Illinois at Chicago.

Western Illinois (4-1) 77 @ Illinois (3-2) 67

What’s better than one Summit League team beating a Big 10 school? Two Summit League teams, ya big dummy. Western Illinois went into Illinois and left with its heart. Yeah I few of the Leatherneck starters didn’t shoot very well but holy hell when you have two student-athletes that make five three’s … a piece you are gonna win a lot of ball games.
